ON THE RISE X UBER EATS

TL;DR

Led the On the Rise, an Uber Eats original series starring Marcus Samuelsson celebrating Black cuisine and culinary icons across America —supporting $250K+ for Black-owned businesses and earning a James Beard Award and a Daytime Emmy Nominee.

THE CHALLENGE

Following the COVID-19 lockdown, Uber Eats wanted to support local restaurants as minority-owned restauraunts were shuttering at a record pace.

THE APPROACH

We partnered with acclaimed chef Marcus Samuelsson to create On the Rise, an original four-part series spotlighting the Black chefs and restaurants shaping American food culture.

Traveling across the country, Marcus sat down with Nina Compton, Rodney Scott, Kwame Onwuachi and Leticia “Skai” Young to explore their food, communities and the cultural legacies behind their work.

Launching during Black History Month, the series gave Uber Eats a meaningful way to champion Black-owned restaurants through storytelling—using its reach to drive awareness, celebrate their influence and encourage audiences to support them.

THE RESULTS

On the Rise drove meaningful support for Black-owned restaurants while earning industry recognition.
